Forest Policy
Forest Policy Section has responsibility for a wide range of policy issues at both national, European (including EU) and international level. At national level, the Policy Section currently deals with issues pertaining to: climate change and carbon sequestration, wood energy, forestry and the environment, legislative framework and liaison with stakeholders including other Government Departments and Agencies.
At European and international level, the Section is responsible for the transposition of EU Directives and Regulations into Irish law as well as representing the Forest Service at the European Council Working Party on Forests, Standing Forestry Committee and Forest Europe events and meetings. Forest Policy Section is responsible for policy in relation to a broad range of diverse forestry issues including:
- Forestry and the environment
- The development of forestry measures for the Rural Development Programme 2007 - 2013
- Climate change and carbon sequestration
- Wood Energy
- EU Directives & Regulations/Transposing legislation
- Legislative Framework (statutory Instruments)
- Liaison with forestry stakeholders
- Liaison with Government Departments and Agencies
- Representing the Forest Service at national and international forums, including:
- The European Council Working Party on Forestry
- The European Commission Standing Forestry Committee
- The United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF)
- The International Tropical Timber Organisation (ITTO)
- The Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forestry in Europe (MCPFE)
