Bird Gatherings
Following a risk assessment undertaken by the Department of Agriculture and Food, bird gatherings are now permitted under general licence, subject to compliance with the following conditions:
- Compliance with the measures set out in the schedule to the licence (click here for conditions) (pdf 32Kb)
- Records are to be kept of all participants, buyers and sellers, including their names, home addresses and contact telephone numbers, and the number and type of birds that they had.
- Advance notice on the form attached (click here) (pdf 22Kb) must be given to the Department of Agriculture and Food not less than 2 working days prior to its taking place.
This new arrangement will apply to gatherings for shows, exhibitions and markets and reverses the decision taken in February 2006 not to licence such gatherings.
Pigeon racing between Britain and Ireland is also permitted under this general licence and is subject to the measures relevant to it in the schedule.
